PDAX said its participation in the ecosystem, alongside global players such as Visa, Shopify, and OpenAI, reinforces its goal of delivering enterprise-grade, low-cost payment infrastructure to the Philippines.

What is Tempo

According to its website, Tempo, developed by fintech giant Stripe and crypto firm Paradigm, is designed to enable fast, predictable, and low-cost financial transactions, addressing limitations of general-purpose blockchains.

The platform supports instant settlement, stable fees, and a stablecoin-native environment, making it suitable for use cases such as remittances, payroll, global payouts, embedded finance, and microtransactions.

Key features:

  • Dedicated payment lanes – guaranteed blockspace for payments at the protocol level; fees remain low and stable even during network spikes.
  • Stablecoin-native gas – transaction fees can be paid in USD stablecoins, eliminating volatile gas tokens and simplifying accounting.
  • Built-in stable asset DEX – a native decentralized exchange optimized for stablecoins and tokenized deposits, maintaining liquidity with low fees.
  • Payments metadata – structured memo fields for invoices and identifiers, enabling reconciliation with ERP systems without custom code.
  • Deterministic settlement – blocks finalize in approximately 0.6 seconds with no reorgs, providing settlement certainty comparable to traditional financial systems.
  • Modern wallet signing – programmable smart accounts supporting gas sponsorship, batch transactions, scheduled payments, and passkey authentication.

Tempo Testnet Launch

On December 9, Tempo launched its public testnet, opening the blockchain for developers and partner institutions to begin building and testing real-world financial applications.

Tempo’s testnet is being developed with a broad group of global partners, including Anthropic, Deutsche Bank, DoorDash, Mercury, Nubank, OpenAI, Revolut, Shopify, Standard Chartered, and Visa.

Additional groups such as Brex, Mastercard, Payoneer, Ramp, and UBS have joined since the project’s announcement.

The launch marks Tempo’s transition from concept to an operational network intended to support use cases such as remittances, global payouts, embedded finance, microtransactions, and tokenized deposits.

The team plans to expand validator participation and move toward a permissionless mainnet in the next phase of development.
