What Is Flork (FLORK)? The Stick Figure Meme That Became a Crypto Token — and Whether It’s Worth Anything

by Molly Hemmings

An MS Paint-style stick-figure meme unexpectedly became a focal point in the crypto market this week after the community on X linked the “Flork” imagery to the platform’s new “Custom Timelines” feature introduced on April 22. The FLORK token on Ethereum surged from a market cap of a few tens of thousands of dollars to nearly $18 million in just a few days before undergoing a sharp correction.

This price rally demonstrates that speculative capital continues to rotate around meme-driven narratives in the crypto market, even when the majority of such tokens have almost no utility or accompanying physical products.

From Webcomic Meme to Crypto Token

FLORK is inspired by “Flork of Cows” — a webcomic series that began in 2012 featuring MS Paint-style stick figure characters. This meme gradually became popular on Reddit, X, and various internet communities due to its simple, recognizable style, often used in reaction memes.

The FLORK token is a community-driven memecoin launched on the Ethereum network in 2023 with a total supply of approximately 1 trillion tokens, though there is no clear information regarding the underlying development team. The project currently has no product, utility, or official connection to the creator of Flork of Cows or the X platform. However, the token began attracting attention again after the crypto community associated the Flork image with a new feature on X, triggering a wave of short-term speculation around the meme.

Several other versions of FLORK on the Solana network and smaller meme coin ecosystems also appeared afterward. However, the majority of liquidity and recent trading activity have been concentrated on Ethereum.

X’s “Memes” Icon Triggered a Speculative Rally

The sharp rally in FLORK occurred immediately after Nikita Bier — Product Lead at X — announced the “Custom Timelines” feature, which allows users to pin specific topics to the app’s homepage.

In the video introducing this feature, the “Memes” section uses an icon with a style very similar to Flork. This quickly became a topic of discussion on crypto Twitter as many traders believed this imagery could help the FLORK meme garner more attention on the X platform.

Although X did not mention the FLORK token and there is no official confirmation or partnership related to crypto, the visual association alone was enough to trigger a wave of short-term speculation.

According to data from Dex Screener, FLORK’s market cap skyrocketed from the tens of thousands of dollar range to nearly $18 million in just a few days after X’s new feature was announced. Liquidity also rose sharply to over $300,000 during the peak period, while 24-hour trading volume at one point exceeded $9 million. Subsequently, the price corrected sharply by more than 30% in just one day.

The attention surrounding FLORK was further heightened after Lookonchain discovered a wallet that had purchased 44.03 billion FLORK with only 1.9 ETH in April 2023. After more than 976 days of inactivity, this amount of tokens was valued at approximately $352,000 at the time FLORK reached its short-term peak.

The “forgotten wallet” story quickly went viral on X as it fit the familiar narrative in the meme coin market: an almost forgotten asset suddenly increasing in price hundreds of times based solely on attention and short-term speculative flow.

Attention Still Drives Meme Coin Markets

The FLORK rally shows that meme coins remain one of the fastest-reacting trends to social narratives in the crypto market. Unlike tokens tied to specific products or ecosystems, most of FLORK’s momentum comes from the level of attention on X, posts from KOLs, and speculative capital rotating around small-cap meme tokens.

In the case of FLORK, the main catalyst was not a product update or new utility integration, but primarily from the crypto community linking this meme to X’s “Custom Timelines” feature. The upward momentum was then amplified as liquidity poured into the token following viral social posts.

Data from Etherscan also shows a relatively high concentration of supply, with the top 100 wallets holding about 57.7% of FLORK’s total supply, while the top 10 holders control nearly 19% of the supply.

Can FLORK Hold Value Beyond the Hype?

FLORK is not the first meme coin to surge due to an internet culture event. However, unlike many recently emerged meme tokens, Flork was already a meme with a certain level of recognition on the internet before being tokenized.

This makes it easier for FLORK to attract attention when the crypto community mentions the meme as X introduces the “Custom Timelines” feature. But like many other meme coins, FLORK’s ability to maintain momentum will depend on how long this narrative can hold the community’s interest.

FLORK illustrates how the crypto market increasingly turns internet memes into speculative assets based on social momentum, where the level of attention is sometimes as important as actual utility.
